Day 12: Underrated Film (a film that doesn’t get the attention it deserves)
Only Yesterday I think. I’m not saying that it doesn’t get any attention but I think it should be up there on the lists as one of the best Studio Ghibli films, no kidding. It’s not an action-packed film like Laputa, or Princess Mononoke, and it’s not the most lovely love story like Howl’s Moving Castle or Whispers of the Heart, and it’s definately not magical, like Spirited Away, but it’s a really good film about a woman who is not scared to leave the life everyone wants her to lead and goes out into the countryside to do farming. Not everyone would do that, right? And it’s really important now because everyone’s caught up in the city life they have started to forget about the countryside. It’s also quite magical how she keeps her memories so close to her, when she feels like they are a burden on her, reminding her of how hard her childhood was, and all the mistakes and misunderstandings she made. It’s quite climactic and emotional how in the end she is able to let go of her childhood and start a new life in the countryside, with the one she feels important to her. That turned out way too long sorry!
